"But my body knows
Of the ribbons and bows
That I once was tied in
In my mother's skin
Before and again"
- Akron Family
Hello!
I am Rida, a content creator, photographer, multifaceted mama, creative, storyteller, faffer and serial Instagrammer; it's where my story started. I also have a podcast called Spill The Chai which I co-host with my wonderful cousin Rabya, you can listen here !
We lived by the sea in gorgeous Brighton for 5 years whilst I was training to be a primary school teacher, but then I fell pregnant (twice, oops!) and stopped my studies to be mama. We are now back in our hometown of Brum (as we affectionately call it) and are loving playing "tourist" in our ever changing and wonderful city. It's great to share our favourite places with the girls but also discover a whole new side to the city as parents.
Before children...we were lucky enough to travel around the world for our honeymoon. We backpacked around South East Asia, had a campervan in Australia and got the greyhound around North America. When I write that out, I honestly feel so blessed to have done that BUT it also gives us constant feelings of wanderlust; so we are always on the lookout for amazing places near or far to take our girls. We want to instil our love of travel in them. It's the best cure to feeling disconnected to the world.
Here I will be sharing all things motherhood, travel, photography, lifestyle and a healthy helping of social justice too. We can no longer stay silent on the issues that matter to us. I hope to amplify and give voice to the things that the world needs to hear, through my creative work.
I love a good natter, so say hello on
I am an immigrant. I am a first generation immigrant. I wasn’t born here. I remember from such an early age, I held onto my British passport with such ferocity if anyone dared question whether I belong here or not, I could retort “I’ve always had a British passport”
A fun half term or weekend activity of using natural dyeing from petals…
he crunch of gravel under the car marked that we had arrived. We slowed and stared at the view of the lake as we pulled into a parking space.
{ I have been thinking a lot about language. The words we choose. The words we don’t know. What we read and what is shoved down our throats. I have been thinking about how language serves us? How do the words we use empower us? And how words fail us when we don’t know how to name feelings or thoughts or actions, leaving us feeling powerless. }
7 things we are most excited about seeing and doing at BlueDot !
Travelling with children can be daunting! Will they cry and want to run around and generally cause chaos?…
It was my first proper time to Cornwall and I had already heard and seen so much loveliness about Watergate Bay, so no pressure but it had a lot to live up to!!…
Becoming a mama has always felt as though I have been split apart; momentarily watching myself from above, an out of body experience

We were lucky enough to stay at Grace and Savour in Spring last year; it happened to be right after our twelve year wedding anniversary, which was such a wonderful alignment because we had spent our ten year anniversary in the first lockdown! Phew! What a time eh! So yes, it’s been a year in the making for this blog but again in perfect alignment, it’s been a year since they opened and they have just been awarded one Michelin star!
